This Handbook will be published in May 2026. The publisher page is here. You can also buy it from the usual online retailers. A podcast introducing the Handbook and featuring some of the chapter authors will be available here.
The Handbook was conceived, designed, written, edited and produced between 2023 and 2026. The vision was for a text featuring a diverse set of intellectual voices. It aims to provide the reader with a grounding in the fundamentals of the field. The emphasis is on social science, with a particular focus on historical, theoretical and disciplinary contributions to our understanding of what is one of the major global social challenges of our time.
As well as being a research resource, the Handbook has also been designed to be suitable for use as part of university courses. If you wish to adopt it as core reading for your course, you may be eligible for a free desk copy (details here).
